Have The Right Tools
When detailing your car it is important to be using the right tools and equipment, especially when it comes to cleaning leather. The good news is a lot of these materials you probably already have. As long as you have access to; a vacuum cleaner, window cleaner (or vinegar/water solution), paper towel or newspaper, and a toothbrush (new or used) to clear the dust out of those air conditioner vents.
Clean Every Nook and Cranny First
By using a synthetic duster between the seats, and a toothbrush in the air vents you’ll be able to move all that dust, dirt, and grime that has found its way into the most inconvenient places to clean (or drop coins). Doing this first means that any excess dust will be simply vacuumed up rather than dropped on your freshly clean upholstery.
Vacuum, Brush, Vacuum again
Often after a long, or particularly dirty winter, mud, gravel, dead leaves, and even pet hair can be stuck deep into the cloth surfaces inside your car, especially the floors. After you’ve vacuum the bulk of the dirt from the surface use a stiff bristled brush to lift up all those nasty, allergy inducing particles before vacuuming once more to get rid of them for good.
Use The Right Stuff
If your car has leather interior or upholstery it really pays to use a reputable, specialised leather cleaner, and if necessary test on an inconspicuous area before applying to the rest of the surface. While you can get away with using vinegar and water on the windows for a streak free clean, using anything other than dedicated leather cleaner can permanently damage your car’s interior.
